Edhi Foundation, considered as the biggest social welfare organization in Pakistan, is the legacy that Abdul Sattar Edhi left behind.

The organization is a house to several old age people, orphans, women as well as animals. Additionally, it also operates with the largest ambulance network in Pakistan.

No religion is higher than humanity- Abdul Sattar Edhi

Abdul Sattar Edhi is known for his remarkable efforts in the social welfare sector of Pakistan. He was known as a philanthropist and a humanitarian. He portrayed such a brilliant example of how living for and helping others is a bigger achievement than any worldly possession. The contentment and peace that comes with helping the weak is incomparable.

The journey of Edhi Foundation hasn’t been easy, but despite all odds, it is one of the biggest welfare organization in Pakistan. The youth is considered as the future of Pakistan. It is our responsibility to take care of the legacy that Edhi Sahab left behind.

For this purpose, we decided to collect donations for the Edhi Foundation as a part of our Amal Academy project.

How was the experience?

No one in the group had collected donations before. So, it was a brand new experience. It was heart warming as well as disappointing.

All the members decided to collect the donations individually. The reason why we agreed to this strategy is because all of us come from different backgrounds and different social circles. This allowed us to reach to masses without putting in extra effort. Additionally, our mode of collection was through easypaisa/Jazzcash/bank transfer.

As a group, we planned a fundraising bake-sale as well. Almost 50% of the preparations were done and rest were in process. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to leave it in the middle.

Collecting donations was definitely not an easy task. We were met with a lot of challenges we did not know how to tackle as it was our first time. The biggest challenge was our credibility. People were very hesitant when we first approached them as they did not trust us enough. However, a lot of efforts and reassurances helped us build the trust.

The toughest challenge we had to face was mode of payment. Due to COVID, physical interactions are not feasible. People who were willing to donate did not have easypaisa/jazzcash/bank transfer. Therefore, we lost a number of potential donators.

The experience also included very harsh rejections that were hard to digest. However, it taught us a lot. We learnt patience and resilience. Despite the rejections, we did not give up and moved forward with determination and belief that someone will help us.

Regardless of all the obstacles, we managed to collect a handsome amount.
